Orakei Basin House
Orakei Basin is a volcanic crater which is truly represented on this magnificent site. Cantilevering dramatically towards the water the house defies the steep site, anchoring the heart of the house to the land.

The form and geometry is of one large shelter wrapping around the narrow site providing a variety of outlooks, maximising passive heating and cooling.

The ground floor of the building is conceived as a continuous landscape that flows from the living areas to the terrace, lawn and outdoor room.

Materiality is key with natural finishes blurring the boundaries of interior and exterior.
